Preparing the submission
Start with the permit check and confirm the procedure for the location. Gather the existing and proposed layouts. Discuss which documents are required and who will submit them with your advisers. Technical design and planning assessment may have different priorities.
What does the structural engineer provide?
The quotation specifies the calculations and structural drawings supplied. Other reports, architectural drawings or administrative submission may fall outside the brief. Record this in advance. The division of responsibilities between the lead structural engineer and suppliers also needs attention.
Changes during the procedure
If you change the proposal, earlier documents may no longer be current. Report changes immediately and ask which documents need updating. Maintain one revision register so the contractor and municipality do not receive different versions.
Practical checklist
- Complete the permit check for your location
- Identify who will submit the application
- Coordinate the drawings
- Keep final documents and decisions
A calculator on a commercial website cannot make a permit decision.
