Structural calculations and permits

What structural documents substantiate, which documents to gather and who decides on your building proposal.

Two separate questions

Under the Dutch Environment and Planning Act (Omgevingswet), the technical building activity and the environmental plan activity may be separately relevant. One concerns technical requirements; the other concerns spatial planning rules. Check the applicable procedure for each location and activity.

What do structural calculations establish?

The calculations substantiate the agreed load-bearing elements and alterations. They set out the design basis, loads and relevant checks. The associated drawing explains the solution. This does not automatically mean every other part of an application has been assessed.

Start with the Omgevingsloket

Use the official Dutch permit check for your activity and location. Additional conditions may apply to a listed building or protected area. Save the result and contact the competent authority if anything is unclear. The commercial project guide on this website does not replace this process.

Which documents should you gather?

  • Existing and proposed floor plans and relevant sections
  • A clear description of the work and intended use
  • Available structural and foundation information
  • The agreed structural calculations and drawing
  • Other documents requested for your specific application

A request for additional information

Forward the complete request, including the case number, requested deadline and document version. Agree with your adviser which discipline should respond. Record changes clearly and avoid an old drawing circulating alongside revised calculations.
