Compare the scope as well as the price
Check that quotations cover the same elements: calculations, structural drawings, foundations, connections, consultation and any survey. A lower base price may mean a narrower scope. Ask who coordinates with the architect and suppliers and what follow-up support is included.
When does additional work arise?
Missing drawings, multiple design options, concealed discrepancies or changes after work starts can take extra time. An urgent schedule or additional site investigation may also be quoted separately. This should be clear in advance. A municipal question within the original structural brief may instead fall under the agreed approval guarantee.
How do you obtain a useful quotation?
Provide the same information when comparing quotations: existing and proposed situations, location and schedule. Ask for a recorded price for a clearly defined brief. Our costs page lists starting prices for straightforward situations. The quotation confirms the work and price for your project.
Practical checklist
- Compare included drawing work
- Ask about investigations and travel costs
- Agree extra work in advance
- Check the total price and delivery status
Low-cost advice on one beam is not the same as a complete structural plan for a wall opening.
